The idea was not to start a band. It was just a tv-show about an imaginary band where everyone wanted to be like the Beatles -without being successful. However, fiction and reality didn't match and the Monkees have sold more than 75 million records worldwide...

Micky was recruited to the Monkees tv-show to sing and play the drums. He was already a skilled musician, singer and actor but he actually didn't know how to play drums. Just to mime in a credible way he needed many lessons.

Michael sings and plays the gitarr. He's said to have won his role in the Monkees after appearing nochalantly on the audition and standing out as the "wool hat guy". Besides being a important singer and songwriter for the Monkees he's also had a solo career, worked as a producer and as a writer.

Davy sang and played the gitarr, tambourine and maracas. He was a skilled musical actor performing in West End in London before getting recruited to the Monkees. He also loved horses and was a talented jockey. It was on the horseback the massive heart attack occured that took his life in 2012.

Peter sang and played the bass, banjo and keyboard. He was probably the most skilled musician in the band and also the only one playing on the first records. Peter had his own fan club (administrated by his granny) but was later released from his Monkees contract to be able to work on other musical projects. Later Peter joined the band again for reunion tours and when diagnosed with cancer in 2009 he encouraged his fans to support the cancer research. He passed away in 2019.
